The simplest safe method I've found is to just dig a ramp, then designate a pit on the topside of the ramp. until you pop the door open and kill them all. Once down there, and if they dont have any way of getting out (use channels and drwabridge to seal it) they will wander around in it forever. Btw those buggers count as one of your civilian when killed and he will use up a coffin. With ennemy dwarves trapped in your cages, its different with them, you just cant "dump" them in the pit like the gobos, you will have to link their cage with a lever to let them out. Thieves are dangerous when moved this way they will escape (never did it personally), in this case i suggest setting their cages to open with a lever in your arena. Be carefull as to not make the hole access too small, and have a few soldiers nearby in case one civilain get scared (cuz he saw a gobos down there). Civilians will move in, take the goblins (amred or not) and throw them down there. Use I-P on it and select the goblins to be thrown in it. Then build a secured room with a channel over it. btw it is good to get rid of vermin inside cages that elves bring without having to build animal traps) #5: Make sure there's an available path, and you haven't locked a door somewhere or something like that.Use the D-B-D option for mass dump on the occupied cage, the use K on each cages to un-dump the cage itself (so only the content of the cage will get dumped the loot!. The fact that the game pauses whenever you're checking makes it worse I've even caught myself spending more real-time checking on things than advancing the clock before. It isn't really a long time, but if you want that task accomplished NOW and you're checking on them frequently, it sure can feel like a long time. #4: Dwarves often take a bit of time to decide on a job to do. If this is the problem you can speed the process by carving out a wider access or possibly manually breaking down your pond zone into smaller sub-ponds. So if you have a narrow access point to the pond, only one dwarf per tile can work at a time, even if they spend most of that time walking to and from the water source. #3: Your pond zone generates one job, and only one job, for every walkable tile inside the zone that borders an open tile also in the zone. The bucket flagged to be brought to the stockpile will *never* be used for water hauling. If you have an unmodified furniture stockpile, to cite a common pitfall, each empty tile of that stockpile will create a task to haul an abandoned bucket over and leave it on the tile. #2: Make sure you don't have those buckets 'in use' elsewhere. Each dwarf needs their own bucket, and they don't share. zones defined by furnitures: bedroom, meeting (again!), barracks.Īnd each of them are defined in a distinct manner.Īnd you still have "outside" and "inside" areas (knowing that an "outside" area can possibly be created 50 levels underground) and certainly some other i don't remember right now. zones defined with "i": hospitals, drinking, meeting. I have been using the burrows for a while and I'm still not using more than half of it's possibilities.ĭamn, now a new player needs to learn that there (at least) 3 kind of zones: You get from "a couple keystroke to get all dorfs out of the sun except the soldiers if you want" to "you can designate any number of zone each for any number of specific dorfs at any moment, at will".

You also need to use the new military screen and alert system, which is a lot more complex as well.ĭon't misunderstand me, I love the new system (which is apparently free of the worst previous glitches) and it's a lot more usefull, but it's without doubt more complex than the previous one.

It also demands designating the burrow itself: for a small fortress it's laughingly easy but right now I had to designate 60 levels (50 of those where just two stairs though) just to be able to keep everyone inside while not stopping normal activity. The new system can present a number of pitfalls for a newbie and is more abstract. Once you know the shortcut, it's very quick and easy to make your dorfs run back inside.

Previously we had "everyone inside!" command that was fairly simple (with some glitches though) and straightforward to understand.
